I guess I'll go with Megadeth. Even though Dave Mustaine is now a Christian douchebag who even refused to tour with Rotting Christ because of their band name, he can still pull off vocals okay and preform live well. Metallica are not only sellouts they can't even pull off a Thrash album anymore. I actually tried listening to Death Magnetic again and while the album wasn't terible the songs were all forgettable. Age isn't doing these guy's justice, especially not on James Hetfield's vocals.
Die hard Metallica fan. Yes, Metallica had some really bad albums, but when they feel like doing something well, they hit it out of the park. And for those that think Megadeth never had a bad album, Risk. Unrelated, but Anthrax's new album is pretty good, has some really solid tracks, and an awesome cover of New Noise.
Never was much of a metal fan, or a rock fan, for that matter. I grew up listening to whatever my parents listened to (50's and 60's stuff), and plugged my tape recorder into my TV to pick up video game music.
Metallica can be good listening though if you don't take them too seriously, which neither me or my brother do.
So, at the risk of being unpopular, I'm just going to go ahead and say "New Order"
Metallica brought me joy with their first three albums, and i still like their stuff (Save for Load and Reload). Megadeth has that pure anger when playing.... BOTH!!!! along with Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, and Demons and Wizards!!!
